The encounter between science and art is the focus of the exhibition “Man Ray – Human Equations: A Journey from Mathematics to Shakespeare”, open until May 10 at the Phillips Collection in Washington.

You can admire a series of photographs that Ray snapped in the ’30s, observing the three-dimensional mathematical models, and the collection of Shakespearean Equations, the paintings that the artist created later inspired by his photos.

This series marked the culmination of an exploration on this issue that lasted 15 years and for the first time the works of Ray will be supported by mathematical models that inspired the artist, made of plaster, paper and cardboard, offered by Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris.

The more than 125 works on display illustrate the continuous research by Ray, an art that he knew objectified the human body and humanized the object, transforming everyday and seemingly trivial materials in new forms of creative expression.
