Until some time ago, nobody would have dared to say “Dear who?”, Because Cara Delevingne was everywhere, is everywhere. In fashion magazines and on Instagram, the streets of London, and now even the movies. Dear was the new heir to Kate Moss, version 2.0 and less snobby than Olivia Palermo, Cara was perfect. Resting on a glittering throne, adored by the fashion houses and commercials, like a doll under a bright light. And then … oops, someone has moved into the light. On someone like that, but at the same time, different. The spotlight is now on Ming Xi.

If you are still unsure of this name, and maybe you do not remember where you saw it, you know that she is the protagonist of the last campaign of LaPerla. But who is Ming Xi?

This 24 year old is all style, coming directly from China, namely Shanghai, but not the usual patterns of oriental charm, perhaps with suction actress (see Dear): Ming Xi (real name is Mengyao “Ming” Xi) is well versed in fashion enough to have graduated from Donghua University in Fashion Design. As if to say: if you want to interpret the fashion you wear, first you have to know what you’re talking about. She made the public aware of the experts coming to the end of the International Elite Model Competition in 2009, Ming Xi won the hearts of Riccardo Tisci, who wanted her for a fashion show of Givenchy couture, the first for a model from China; and what about Karl Lagerfeld, who wanted her on the catwalk for Chanel 12 times, and fashion shows for Victoria’s Secret? Definitely, Ming Xi is much more of the classic pretty face.

Despite being considered one of the top 50 supermodels on the planet, Ming Xi is most admired for her style as well as her stride during a parade. Her street style is envied, for the nonchalance with which she interprets it. The key pieces are readily available, a mix of various trends of different seasons: bomber jackets, perhaps with monograms, sportswear not just female paired with feminine shorts and faux furs, mirror sunglasses, tees with slogans and logos, beanie hats, and a difficult mix to interpret that straddles scruffy and cool. As the yin and yang, Ming Xi interprets clothes like a male mood with a feminine side, but also a grace that few women can replicate, and it all ends with a smile that immediately creates sympathy. She never sticks her tongue out or grimaces like dear: the sympathy of Ming Xi is different and genuinely spontaneous.

To view it, just wait until the beginning of these fashion weeks, and while even the low-cost brands are racing to have her, Ming Xi continues to walk the streets, dictating her unique street style.
