Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

It’s been exactly 150 years since, March 7, 1865, when work began on what would become “the living room” of Milan, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II . This year the anniversary will coincide with the conclusion of the interior restoration, which lasted 13 months thanks to a construction site 24-hour 24, which will return to the gallery in all its glory, in time for theĀ Milan Expo .

The aim, in fact, is to present the best, “the living room” to the millions of international tourists that will flow to Milan in the coming months.

The galleria was reported to be 14,000 square meters of variously decorations in its original beauty.

The operation, carried out by the company of building restoration Gasparoli , comes from an interesting collaboration between public and private: in addition to the participation of the city and a continuous control by the Superintendent, it has seen the logistical and financial support (3 million euro) of Versace and Prada , with the contribution also fromĀ Feltrinelli, some of the great Italian brands present in the gallery, which felt the need to do this tribute to the city.

In parallel we developed the project “In the Gallery” , with the organization of tours to the construction site (of which some schools have already taken advantage) to give voice to the restoration and history of fine art.

Companies Percassi, responsible for scaffolding and site installations, conceived for the restoration a wagon movable bridge, which allowed two teams of restorers to work day and night, working virtually “fly” , without ever interfering with commercial activities and with the passage of citizens and tourists. Marco Sobrero , responsible for the restoration, explained that the work has included a thorough analysis of the tested input, internal surfaces and complex neo-mannerist decorations, recognizing the original parts, distinguishing the stone from decorative concrete, plaster and studying art. You will also receive a maintenance plan, which will remain the heritage of the City of Milan.
